Our tallow is sourced from pasture-raised cows from the United States. They are 100% grass-fed, meaning they are never fed corn or soy from feedlots, which can increase the Omega-6 fatty acid content of the tallow. This is important because an imbalance of Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acids can create tallow that is actually inflammatory, and not as nature intended. 100% grass-fed tallow has higher Omega-3 fatty acids, higher antioxidants, higher conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and higher levels of vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are all beneficial for the skin. Additionally, the cows our tallow is sourced from are never given antibiotics, hormones, or steroids. Pasture-raised cows are healthier than feedlot cows due to their open, spacious living conditions, so they rarely, if ever, get sick. The cows are also pasture-raised on grasses free from pesticides and herbicides. This is critical for the health of the cows and the quality of our tallow, as pesticides and herbicides can be stored in the fat.

There are two methods for processing raw beef fat into tallow suitable for skincare: dry-rendering and wet-rendering. All tallow is initially dry-rendered, where the raw beef fat is heated slowly until it turns into liquid. At this stage it is filtered, separating the liquid fat from the connective tissue, water, or other impurities. What remains is pure fat which is golden in color and retains a beefy odor. Wet-rendering is the process of taking the dry-rendered tallow and purifying it using salt and water on low-heat, which removes the beefy odor and produces an odorless tallow.

Many brands produce tallow skincare products with dry-rendered tallow and subsequently have a beefy odor that is often masked with essential oils. Our tallow goes one step further with the wet-rendering method to produce a luxurious, completely odorless tallow that retains a high level of vitamins, CLA, fatty acids, and antioxidants that feed and nourish the skin without the beefy smell.

Our essential oils are sourced from a highly-reputable supplier. They are all third-party tested for purity and authenticity and are also ethically sourced. We use organic essential oils wherever the price is sustainable for the product. The essential oil levels in our formulations always follow IFRA (International Fragrance Association) usage level guidelines, so you never need to worry about applying unsafe levels of essential oils to your skin. Our essential oils are stored in air-tight glass amber jars in a cooled environment. This ensures they maintain their freshness until they are ready to be made into a new batch of tallow skincare products. We also add Vitamin E Tocopherol (a potent antioxidant) to our Face Creams and Lip Butters to further ensure our products are as fresh as possible when they arrive in your hands.

Our Jojoba (pronounced ho-ho-ba) Oil is USDA-Certified Organic. Technically a liquid wax and not an oil, it is expeller-pressed from the fruit of the plant without the use of extraction chemicals. Jojoba oil is chosen for our formulations due to the fact that it is very similar in makeup to human sebum. It has a beautiful, lightweight, dry-finish on the skin and is non-comedogenic. It pairs perfectly with tallow to create the ultimate skincare products.

We’ve sourced the most natural Vitamin E Tocopherol on the market. The role of Vitamin E Tocopherol is to inhibit oxidation and rancidity in cosmetic formulations. It greatly prolongs the shelf life of our products. Unfortunately, almost all Vitamin E Tocopherols are synthetic. This makes them more widely available and less expensive, but we believe in using only the highest quality ingredients we can find. Our Vitamin E Tocopherol is sourced from non-GMO sunflower seeds and is both natural and highly active.
